BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

For the week of September 24th, 2003

If you want to explore more Jewish Holiday recipes Jewish Holiday Feasts by Louise Fiszer and Jeannette Ferrary is the book for you. This small collection of only 39 recipes is a good start to cooking for many Jewish holidays. Each section starts with a brief amount of history about the holiday and then is followed by several recipes. You can purchase this book at your local bookstore or by clicking the above photo or hyper-text to Amazon.com.
If you are looking for something more substantial I suggest Jewish Cooking in America by Joan Nathan. With over 300 kosher recipes she explores the dietary laws, customs and cultures of Jewish peoples around the world then adapts these for the American mindset. Only in America could you have a recipe like Cajun matzoh balls with green onions. Jewish Cooking in America won the Julia Child Cookbook Award in the American Category. If you try only recipe from this book I suggest the salmon with caper sauce. My friend Ariel served it for Passover and it was the hit of the Seder.
