BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

For the week of Jan. 14th, 2004

If you are looking to expand beyond the borders of Rome The Classical Cookbook by Andrew Dalby and Sally Grainger is the book to get you started. This hardcover edition with 144 pages is a very carefully researched book by one of the most respected culinary historians in the world. The 37 color illustrations and 57 black and white illustrations add to the quality of this book. I highly recommend it.
As the saying goes man can not live on bread alone. The First Man in Rome by Colleen McCullough is the first in a historical fiction series that takes place in the last days of the Roman Republic”. McCullough brings all her writing skills to bear on this gloriously detailed political and personal story that you will not be able to put down.
