BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

For the week of Dec. 24th, 2003

If you would just like to serve a nice cheese tray and are looking for some good descriptions pick up a copy of French Cheeses: The Visual Guide to More Than 350 Cheeses from Every Region of France by Joel Robuchon. This book will have you salivating in no time. The photographs (of every cheese) is the most amazing part of the book, but the descriptions, which include region, milk type, essential facts and detailed aroma and taste guide make this book a must have for the cheese lover or anyone who plans to eat their way through France. May I suggest you start with the double and triple cream sections, they are my favorites.
If you are looking for more appetizers to make for your festive holiday party you need look no further than Martha Stewart's Hors D'Oeuvres Handbook by Martha Stewart and Susan Spungen, There has been much written about Martha in the press over the past year, but that will all be forgotten when you get lost in this amazing book on Hors D'Oeuvres. The book starts out with an entire section of more than 300 color photographs all cross-referenced to the recipes. Then continues on with 10 great chapters that start with “Building Blocks for the Best Hors D’Oeuvers” and ends with “Classics.” This is the book you want if you are throwing any party over the holidays.
